Advertising

Kansai Time Out and JapanFile are able to offer advertisers many formats for reaching their audience. Currently, you can advertise with us in several ways:

1. Kansai Time Out Display Advertisements: These are graphic advertisements that appear within the pages of Kansai Time Out magazine.
2. Kansai Time Out Classified Advertisements: These text-only ads appear in the popular classifieds section of Kansai Time Out Magazine.
3. JapanFile Display Advertisements: To reach a global audience, advertisers can pay to place an ad on any (or every) page of JapanFile.
4. JapanFile Online Classifieds: If you've placed an ad in the KTO classifieds section, you are eligible to have your ad appear online on JapanFile for a small additional fee. This service is only available to customers who have placed a print classified ad.

Kansai Time Out: Display Ads

KTO is available in many hotels, restaurants, bookshops, language schools and universities throughout the region, as well as in Tokyo, Hiroshima and Okayama. We design our magazine so that readers will use it often. Because KTOís readers keep the magazine and refer to it frequently throughout the month, KTO is the ideal vehicle for advertisers wanting to reach this active readership, often and effectively. First published on four pages in the spring of 1977, it has since grown to 72 pages. With many business people, tourists, students, foreign residents and Japanese nationals reading the magazine every month, the circulation has grown from 2,000 to over 10,000 readers. From February 2005 we are offering full colour in all papers and for all advertisements.

Software:

• If possible, please use Adobe Illustrator to create your advertisement. All files should be saved in the EPS format, including those created using other vector illustration software packages (CorelDraw, Freehand).
• If using Adobe Illustrator, any version up to and including 10.0 is acceptable. Please do not use the transparency tool in ver.9.0. Preferably all files should be saved as ver.8.0.
• PDF file are also accepted providing all fonts have been embeded.
• We cannot accept advertising created in Adobe Pagemaker, Quark XPress, MS Word, MS Publisher, etc (unless it has been converted to PDF format).

Other points:

• Photographs to be used in advertisements should be scanned at 350 dpi.
• Internet images will NOT be accepted.
• Colour photographs should be converted to CMYK (not RGB) mode, and saved as ë.tiffí or ë.epsí files.
• Please create an outline text version of advertisements in addition to the original. This prevents font matching problems.
• Please ensure that a hard copy/ print out of your advertisement is either included with the data, or is sent to us by fax. If sending by fax, please ensure you send it as a grayscale fax.

Data transmission:

• Advertisement data can be sent on a 128/230/640MB MO (Mac format), 100MB Zip, CD or DVD. Any of these types of disk is acceptable.
• Data less than 5MB may also be sent as a compressed file (ë.zipí or ë.sití) by email to ktoadmin@kto.co.jp

Deadlines: If sending complete digital data, the first time the advertisement runs, the data should reach us by the end of the month, two months before publication. For example, the data of an advertisement for the June issue should reach us by the end of April. In subsequent months, any changes or additions should reach us by the fifth of the month prior to publication. For example, an advertisement for the June issue must reach us by May 5. If the tenth of the month is a Saturday or Sunday, please ensure the advertisement reaches us by the preceding Friday. When design work is needed, please send ad material (text, logo, map, photo, etc) by the end of the month (i.e. by the end of April for June issue).

Kansai Time Out: Classified Ads

These text-only ads appear in the popular classifieds section of Kansai Time Out Magazine.

Type size: 8 point - ¥100/word, 9 point - ¥150/word, 10 point - ¥200/word, 11 point - ¥250/word. Phone, fax, email and website (URL) details count as one word. Type sizes cannot be mixed.

Minimum charge: There is a minimum charge for advertisements of ¥1,000.

Free ads (up to 20 words): Accommodation/employment wanted, goods want to buy, free lesson offers, language exchanges, sayonara sales, and personal/non-profit announcements, and volunteer opportunities are a free service. Free ads are always printed in 7 pt. type size. On rare occasions, ads may have to be edited.

Payment can be made in any of the following ways:

1. Bank transfers: Minato Bank, Hyogo branch
   Futsu 1760024, Hit's Co., Ltd.
2. Postal Transfers: 00950-8-122462, Hit's Co., Ltd.
3. In cash via registered mail or ¥100 postal stamps sent to the office.
4. By credit card (VISA/MasterCard only) - fax/post your card information to the office.
5. For overseas advertisers, send cash (Japanese yen) via registered mail, or pay by credit card (sorry, but bank drafts are not accepted).

For paid ads, please order with proof of payment (i.e. faxing a copy of the post office yubin furikae form).

Advertisements cannot be run in KTO unless both payment and order are received by the deadline listed above. (Classified ads sent after deadline will be considered for the next issue.)
